JINR researchers use all possible methods, including neutron scattering, to study the activity of fullerenes in the destruction of amyloid plaques and to reveal the underlying mechanisms. These studies open up a new avenue for the development of anti-amyloid nanodrugs for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.

Neutron diffraction experiments carried out at FLNP JINR revealed the structural features of high-temperature shape-memory alloys (NiTiHf) upon phase transformations. The results not only explain the reasons for the inconsistency between theoretical and experimental data, but also make it possible to choose the optimal ways to improve the properties of the unique alloys.

Researchers from the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics, JINR, have explored the possibility of using brewer's yeast to remove heavy metals from wastewater. Using the example of real electroplating effluent containing zinc and other metals, as well as model wastewater solutions of different compositions, they studied optimal conditions for its use and mechanisms of heavy metal adsorption by the biosorbent.

Studies by researchers from the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics of JINR reveal the relationships between the structural features and macroscopic properties of smart iron-gallium alloys (galfenol). Comparative X-ray and neutron diffraction experiments help researchers to move forward in obtaining alloys with the desired properties and demonstrate the advantages of neutrons over X-rays in studies of these metallic systems.

Scientists from the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics, JINR, carried out investigations to gain an insight into the mechanism of deterioration of rapakivi granites, from which the famous architectural monuments of the City on the Neva were created.
