"Improved neutron lifetime measurement with UCNtau"
E.I. Sharapov
(Report on the work PRL, v.127, 162501,(13 Oct 2021))
In the new experiment , performed at LANL by the UCNtau Collaboration with their magnetic trap for ultracold neutrons, the Collaboration has achieved the most precise measurement of the neutron lifetime tau = 877,75 +- 0,34 s. In comparison with the previous experiment, the statistical and the systematic uncertainties have been reduced to values less than the above quoted level, approaching now the theoretical precisions of calculations in beta-decay within the Standard Model of elementary particles.

"Ternary and quaternary fission studies from Cf-252 spontaneous fission using silicon pixel detectors Timepix"
Ahmadov G. S., Holik M., Kopatch Y. N., Berikov D. et. al
The emission probabilities and the energy distributions of particles emitted in the spontaneous ternary and quaternary fission of 252Cf were determined. To study these processes, an experimental setup (figure) was assembled, consisting of three silicon ∆E-E telescopes and a silicon detector. Thin detectors with an area of 10 × 10 mm2 and a thickness of 15 and 150 μm were used to measure ∆E, and Timepix silicon pixel detectors with an area of 14 × 14 mm2 and a thickness of 300 and 600 μm were used to measure E. We registered ternary and quaternary particles beginning from proton up to C from 252Cf spontaneous fission source with an activity of 350 kBq. The particle identification was performed with ∆E-E particle identification technique (figure). Preliminary results from collected data within 45 days of measurements were presented. From the measured partial-energy spectra of the particles, it was possible to estimate the total yields of the various particle types by extrapolation.
